We “greatly appreciate” efforts of Georgia’s honorary consuls serving to promote investment, business environment of country

The Honorary Consulate Institute is particularly important for Georgia, including in presenting the country “positively” on the international stage, disseminating objective information, sharing investment and tourism potential and raising awareness, Levan Davitashvili, Economy Minister and Deputy Prime Minister said on Sunday at the thematic panel on economic diplomacy at the Conference of Honorary Consuls of Georgia – Cooperation for a Strong Partnership.

At the conference, held by the Foreign Ministry, Davitashvili said the honorary consuls’ “focused and proactive” activities would make a “substantial” contribution to the implementation of the 12-point conditions set by the European Council for granting Georgia EU candidate status , which included the sustainable, “stable” development and prosperity of the country.

Stressing that the world is facing “many unexpected and complex challenges” including the “unprecedented and severe” pandemic and geopolitical challenges affecting security and economy as well as humanitarian and environmental aspects, Davitashvili stressed the “utmost importance” of ” thoughtful and balanced” international cooperation, as well as improving relations with partners and strengthening ties with “other participants in the world community,” the economy ministry said.

Georgia has come closer to its historic aspiration to become a member than ever before […] the EU and NATO. The progress of our country towards the big European family is a guarantee of increased economic engagement with the EU and its member states and increased economic interaction with Europe, which means more jobs, a growing economy and the development not only of our country but also the region as well,” said the Economics Minister.

Davitashvili stressed the importance of Georgia’s energy, transport-logistics, tourism and investment potential, “especially” against the backdrop of geopolitical challenges, which have “further strengthened” the country’s function as a “link” to the East, South and West in of the region and said Georgia has “repeatedly proved” to be a “reliable partner” of the civilized world.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed the hope that all honorary consuls would “actively promote” Georgia as a country with the “best investment and business environment” in their countries of residence, noting that he “greatly appreciates” their efforts in this direction.

The thematic panel highlighted reforms to facilitate business creation and investment in Georgia. The honorary consuls familiarized themselves with the country’s foreign trade policy, international trade agreements and existing trade regimes, the ministry said, adding that “special attention” was paid to Georgia’s participation in international transit and energy projects.
