The City of Whittlesea hosted a successful social procurement and inclusive workplace event in August in partnership with Social Outcome Solutions (SOS).
The aim was to provide 50 job opportunities for Whittlesea townspeople who would otherwise find it challenging to find work such as: B. young people, people with disabilities, First Nations or culturally and linguistically diverse people.
The event attracted 300 enrolments, more than 100 job seekers and 15 local employers, contractors and benefits providers, who as a result were able to fill over 40 positions that day.
“We were inundated with applications and immediately hired three new employees,” said Iliana Dimitriadis, head of people and culture at Aqua Metro, one of the employers.
The event was in line with the City of Whittlesea’s Strong Local Economy Strategy, which outlines the Council’s vision for its economic future – prioritizing local jobs, promoting educational opportunities and enabling local businesses to innovate and thrive.
City of Whittlesea CEO Craig Lloyd said the City Council has an important role to play in supporting local jobs.
“The event is an example of the Council’s role in supporting the provision of local jobs for local people and addresses the economic empowerment challenges facing companies to fill key job vacancies,” said Mr Lloyd.

Why do you like living in the City of Whittlesea?
I grew up in Lalor and now run my office from home in Mernda but often work at wonderful local cafes and restaurants.
