KA|Koch Architects is a full-service architecture firm with expertise in sustainable modern housing projects and mid-century modern renovations. Our team consists of a passionate group of visual thinkers who care deeply about creating well-crafted, authentic, modern designs. Each project is carefully guided from an initial concept through all phases of design, document development and construction. Our office is in West Berkeley, the office culture is informal, friendly and collaborative while the work is rigorous in quality and detail.

With a number of compelling new projects underway, we have the opportunity for a candidate to lead a small team through all phases of the design and delivery process. We are looking for a candidate interested in permanent leadership and soon future ownership. The perfect candidate is inspired by the legacy of mid-century modern architecture and has a knowledge of environmentally conscious design. Candidates must have exceptional communication and technical skills needed to direct the execution of complete construction document packages and provide construction management services.

This is a full-time on-site position for licensed candidates with a minimum of 8-10 years experience in an architectural practice and ideally 5 years experience in custom residential buildings. We offer a $5,000 sign up bonus.

The main responsibilities of this position include:

  • Hands-on leadership of projects and team members from schematics to construction management
  • Collaborate with client and team members to create 2D and 3D design documents (Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp modeling, hand drawing)
  • Creation, editing and supervision of the production of construction drawing sets
  • Project correspondence, schedule and budget
  • Code research (planning and construction)
  • Research and specify materials and systems

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited US architecture school
  • CA license preferred
  • Candidate will have advanced communication skills for customer interaction and team leadership – ability to lead customer presentations with ease
  • Previous experience coordinating work with consultants and contractors including references to support this ability
  • Experience in construction management on construction sites
  • Knowledge of CBC (California Building Code)
  • Excellent graphics, rendering and verbal communication skills are a must
