Pantami Calls For Creation Of Ministry Of Digital Economy Across States

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Ali Isa Pantami, urged governments to establish a digital economy ministry to promote economic growth.

Pantami said this in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, yesterday, during a visit to commend Governor Seyi Makinde for his decision to host the 10th meeting of the National Council on Communication and Digital Economy in Ibadan.

The Minister, who was present at the Executive Council Chamber of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, commended Governor Makinde for supporting the sector and encouraging the government to establish a Ministry of Finance.

He confirmed that the digital economy has contributed more to economic growth, job creation and increased federal funding than any other sector and cannot be left under another ministry.

The minister who said that the Federal Government will implement the main policies that were given after the 10th general meeting, disclosed that Oyo Sate was appointed to maintain the tradition of expanding the concept of products to every part of the country.

“We have shown that the digital economy can significantly improve the traditional economy. The contribution of the digital economy to Nigeria’s gross domestic product (GDP) and its role in making the economy resilient to crises like the COVID-19 pandemic are two good examples of how the digital economy is impacting the traditional economy. “

“It is very important because our country, Nigeria, is at the point where it is transforming into one of the countries that in the next few years will be seen as one of the leading economies in the world.”

“This is the desire of the Ministry and President Muhammadu Buhari that all the agencies under the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, private sector organizations and companies are working towards the development of the digital economy in Nigeria.”

“Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) is seen as very effective in realizing some, if not all, of the SDGs such as ending hunger through Agrictech, zero poverty through ICT, good health among others,” he said.

Responding, Governor Seyi Makinde, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun, said that his administration understands that ICT is very important to the progress and results it wants to produce from the beginning in 2019.

He revealed that his administration knows that investing in the digital economy is important for the development of the government’s economy, which is one of the important things, and he has put policies and policies on ICT by putting all the measures in the government.

Makinde confirmed that his leadership will see what can be done in making the ministry of finance digital, as requested by the ministry, because it is clear that ICT is the future.
