Among all groups, black males are adversely affected by ill health and this is not limited to any particular age group but affects individuals of all ages. Funk Roberts, an online fitness entrepreneur, discusses the causes of declining health in black men and offers six fitness tips.

According to Funk, black men have higher rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease than other groups, with heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes being the leading causes of death among them.
According to Funk, poor lifestyle choices, eating cheap fast food, and a lack of information are the top three causes of declining health in African American men. He also emphasizes low testosterone as a cause of poor health. Studies show that between 10% and 40% of men worldwide suffer from low testosterone levels. Testosterone levels have also been found to naturally decrease by 1-2% per year after the age of 30. While testosterone deficiency is common in men over the age of 65, black men in their 30s and 40s have low levels due to poor lifestyle factors.
The reason it is important to maintain testosterone levels is because it is the primary male hormone involved in several critical physiological processes. Its sufficient amounts are required for strength, muscle mass, body fat distribution, insulin sensitivity, increased daily energy, improved mood, bone mineral density, libido, sperm production, increased drive and confidence. It can be said to enhance overall masculinity!

Testosterone Meal Plan: Eating three meals a day with a balanced diet of starchy complex carbohydrates, protein, healthy fats, and vegetables/fruit can help maintain testosterone levels and boost fat-burning metabolism. The best thing about a balanced diet is that it’s not expensive at all!
Stay away from foods that kill testosterone: Funk lists foods to avoid to maintain health and hormones. Here are the foods to get off your plate – sugar, pastries and desserts, processed foods, soy, soda and energy drinks, alcohol, fried foods, refined carbohydrates, milk and trans fats.
Metabolic training: 20-30 minute metabolic workouts of compound and multi-limbed movements are ideal for maximizing growth hormone release, allowing you to reap the benefits of powerful muscle-building and fat-burning hormones.
Proper sleep: A healthy sleep cycle is 7-8 hours each night. This helps in reducing cortisol fat storage and increasing testosterone levels so more fat is burned.
Stay Consistency: As the body adapts, it is unrealistic to expect results in the first week. By the end of the second week you will be feeling better, and by the end of the third week you can say goodbye to your lower belly fat forever.
