Neha Narkhede: Meet India’s youngest self-made woman entrepreneur in Hurun rich list

Co-founder of Confluent, a streaming data technology company, Neha Narkhede made the list of India’s youngest self-made entrepreneurs at just 37 years old. The list compiled by Hurun India with IIFL Wealth today released the IIFL WEALTH HURUN INDIA RICH LIST 2022, the 11th annual ranking of the richest people in India. Interestingly, this year’s list showed “a record 735 entrepreneurs, or 67%, are self-made businesses, up from 659 last year and up from 367 (54%) five years ago. 79% (117) of the new faces this year are self-made.” According to the Hurun Rich List, “1,103 people are part of this list, 96 more than last year, across 122 cities. Cumulative wealth is up 9.4% while average wealth is down 1%.”

Who is Neha Narkhede?

According to the list compiled by research firm Hurun and released in July, Neha Narkhede had reportedly ranked 8th among the top 10 richest Indian women. The 37-year-old is the latest addition to join India’s wealthiest women with a net worth of 13,380 crores.

The youngest entrepreneur boasts a glittering career, as prior to launching Confluent, Neha Narkhede had worked with LinkedIn, where she helped develop an open-source messaging system called Apache Kafka, which handles the networking site’s large data inputs should. According to the Forbes report, published last month in August, “Eight years ago, she and her team decided to make this technology available to other companies facing the same problems with user data and founded Confluent, a data streaming company platform that went public last June.”

India’s youngest self-made entrepreneur grew up in Pune, Maharashtra and attended the University of Pune where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the Pune Institute of Computer Technology (PICT) College of SCTR. She left India in 2006 to pursue her Masters in Computer Science at Georgia Tech and after graduating in 2007 she began her career at Oracle and then LinkedIn where she reportedly worked as a software engineer. It was only after that that she co-founded Confluent, and it’s important to note that as of June 2021, Confluent was up 25 percent on the NASDAQ and had a market valuation of $11.4 billion.
