NC State Adds Another World Juniors 10K Champion with Verbal from David Betlehem

Just days after receiving a verbal commitment from 2022 girls’ 10K World Champion Bettina Fabian, the North Carolina State University swimming and diving program has named a boys champion. David Bethlehemannounced his intention to join the Wolfpack next fall on social media, writing:

“I am very excited and honored to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic studies at North Carolina State University. I am deeply grateful to my family, coaches, friends and teammates for their endless support. Couldn’t be more excited to be a part of such an amazing family! GOPACK!!🐺❤️”

Bethlehem is from Bagod, Hungary. Balaton trains with ÚK Veszprém and represents Hungary on the international stage. Bethlehem competed at the 2022 FINA World Junior Open Swimming Championships, where he won the boys’ 10K in a dominant time of 1:53:10.30 in four minutes, 32.5 seconds. He and Fabian combined to win more gold for Hungary in the 4×1500 medley relay, beating Germany by 1:33 minutes and Italy by 2:07 minutes.

He represented Hungary at the 2021 European Championship held in Budapest and the European Junior Championship held in Rome. At the last meet, she won silver in the 1,500 free with a PB of 15:02.28. That was 15.9 seconds faster than he swam in Budapest two months ago, when he finished 12th in the preliminary race.

Bethlehem has No. 9 Hudson Williams, No. 13 Chase Mueller, Jerry Fox, Mitchell Ledford, Will Heck, Henry Lee, J.R. in the NC State Class of 2027.
