The population of Thailand are collective Ageand now the Department of Labor is trying to address the problem senior citizens without the financial means to support themselves. Labor Secretary Suchart Chomklin is working to create one labour market for senior citizens as unemployed Thais over 60 struggle to pay their bills.
The plan to reduce inequality in society by creating resources and employment opportunities for the elderly population has helped over 1,000 people secure jobs and has provided hundreds of job opportunities including self-employment opportunities. The DOE has worked to find jobs for older people past normal retirement age, and the director-general says it has been successful so far.
“The department recently worked with the Business Services Alliance to hire 100 seniors and people with disabilities as customer service representatives at the Amazon for Chance coffee shop.”
A recent survey found that of the 9,408 older people surveyed who were eligible for work, only 15% were interested in a full-time position at a company. The majority, 76%, preferred to be self-employed. The remaining 9% were more indifferent, saying they could work for themselves or for an employer.
In fiscal year 2021, which ends this month, the Labor Department helped 1,007 people over the age of 60 find employment. The Department of Labor has worked with companies to create jobs for older people as well.
They say there are 199 job opportunities for a senior to become self-employed, giving examples such as making lucky stone bracelets or selling trees online.
The DOE had also forged relationships with companies such as MK Restaurant Group, New Travelodge, MBC Land and Surin Sugar to help create employment opportunities for older people. In addition, 148 job profiles were identified that could employ older workers, such as B. Chef, customer service representative, barista or store manager. The Director General of the DOE said that currently the top 5 most popular jobs for older people are:
- production worker
- housekeeper
- security guards
- coaching staff
- driver
