“We call it ‘Mega’ because it’s the largest job fair Sarnia-Lambton has ever hosted,” said Kyle Walker, jobs developer at Lambton College Co-op and Career Services.
An early March 2020 job fair at the college, also organized by the Sarnia school together with the Sarnia Lambton Workforce Development Board and the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership, brought together about 80 employers and was said to be the largest to date in Sarnia-Lambton’s time, it said walker
“This one, I’m looking at 97 verified employers,” he said Thursday, noting that the same three organizations are coming together again to organize.
Employers attending the show at the college on Sept. 28 come from across the province and span a variety of sectors, Walker said.

“We have hospitality; we have healthcare; we have trading positions; we have positions in finance,” he said. “There really is something for everyone.”
The Fair Day is part of a larger, free, September 26-30 Workforce Week series of presentations and workshops for job seekers and employers on topics such as resume writing, interview skills, managing virtual and hybrid work expectations, and employee retention. he said.
The establishment of the inaugural event was the result of discussions between the college, the development committee and the business partnership, Walker said.
“We know that many employers are currently struggling to fill vacancies; We know there is a lot of uncertainty about what types of jobs are available and how people can prepare to find those positions,” he said.

“So this is really an opportunity to showcase those positions, but also to better prepare our job seekers in the community to be successful.”
Lambton College has held smaller, virtual job fairs on its own in the intervening two and a half years amid the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.
Organizers have so far held back on going bigger to keep people safe, while acknowledging that many aren’t comfortable with larger gatherings, he said.
“We’re now able to get back into the swing of things and get people together in one space,” he said, adding he hoped many would attend.
More than 30 of the employers expected to be on site during Wednesday’s 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. event are also open to interview potential applicants, he said, encouraging students, graduates and interested community members to bring plenty of resumes.
