NORTH JACKSON – Martha Jane King Knapp, 77, passed away peacefully on Friday September 16, 2022 in Antonine Village surrounded by her family.
Jane was born on February 1, 1945 in North Jackson, the first child of Daniel Eli and Shirley Jean Davis King.
Jane, who graduated from Jackson Milton High School in 1963, excelled in music and English. She met the love of her life, Robert Clyde Knapp, in the marching band at JM. After graduating from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown University and when Bob returned from Vietnam, they married on March 28, 1967. Jane and Bob Knapp were longtime members of the First Federated Church in North Jackson, where Jane was choir director for many years, and more recently they attended Lordstown Christian Church. They enjoyed singing together in community choirs.
Jane taught music at the Garrettsville School District until 1971, when she retired from teaching to take up her second full-time job and manage her three unruly sons. Jane loved caring for children and served as a kindergarten teacher and nanny at Canfield for several years. She loved to read, tend to her miniature roses, hunt squirrels and knit for her loved ones. She was known for her homemade desserts, blueberry muffins, knitted slippers and stockings, and sang a strong contralto voice while leading music.
The list of family members who will dearly miss Jane is long. Her sons Robert Daniel (Shannon), Jason Dwight (Virginia) and Randall Ernest (Jeanette) mourn her loss; along with her grandchildren Logan, Jayden, Fisher, Callaghan, Sawyer and Emma. Also, she is survived by her father Dan; and her siblings Jackie (Bob), Dan, Bo (Karen), Bill (Lisa), Dave and Tim (Mary Ann). She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Jane was led into the afterlife by her husband Bob; and her mother Shirley.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a funeral service to be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at the Lane Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel. Burial will take place at North Jackson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial donations be made to the Jane Knapp Memorial Fund, https://gofund.me/0359bd4e, which will be directed to Antonine Village for memorialization activities or to the Deerfield Chorus your designation.
