Local & Foreign jobs : Ministry to launch ‘Glocal Fair 2022’

The Glocal Fair 2022, which will be held at Galle’s Samanala Stadium, will bring together all institutions of the Ministry of Labor and local and international job providers under one roof.

This will give people in the region the opportunity to get all relevant information about the services offered by the ministry, solutions to workers’ labor and social issues and information about opportunities in local and overseas employment, said Labor and External Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara.

He said the public will have access to all matters related to the migrant workers’ pension scheme and the newly introduced vehicle permit for migrant workers who have remitted their income through official channels.

The Minister further told the media:

The Department of Labor is responsible for the welfare and welfare of all workers in the country. Our ministry is responsible for the labor force of the entire country. The range of subjects of our ministry is very wide and includes job placement for the youth of the country, placement of overseas jobs, providing solutions to the problems of migrant workers and providing solutions to the problems faced by all workers in general .

We need to go to the people instead of working from offices. We must deal with people’s problems and help them. We decided to go to the village and offer our services. As a first step, we are running this ministry program to educate, solve problems and provide all ministry services while going to people’s doorsteps by going to their villages. One can also identify this as a mobile service. It can be said that this is a carnival and a fair that offers services. However, we call this “glocal”. This is an opportunity for people to learn about job opportunities globally and locally and also get solutions to work-related problems. The inaugural event of this program will take place on October 15th and 16th at the Samanala Stadium in Galle.

Here the public is given the opportunity to learn about local jobs, overseas jobs and get solutions to work-related problems provided by the Ministry of Labor and Overseas Employment. Also, we are working on reaching out to the private sector, conducting studies on jobs and offering all our services while going to the villages, to people’s doorsteps.

This will go beyond a traditional cellular service and be an international scale program. A QR code system for registration will be introduced in the future for those who wish to participate. You can then register there. Employment agencies, foreign employment agencies, youth education agencies, private universities and vocational training agencies can join. All of this takes the form of a full festival, but functions as a mobile ministry service. Information on this is continuously updated via the media. A separate website will be opened for this purpose and a separate Facebook page will also be initiated.”

Here, foreign workers are given the opportunity to find out about the provision of vehicle licenses for the purchase of electric vehicles and the pension plans offered to them. This will be a place where the future could be changed with new possibilities and greener pastures for a bright future. This is a festival that offers services. But one can wonder if that is appropriate in these trying times. But we don’t do this by spending government money. With this program we want to carry our services into the village.

In this way we can let the people in their villages themselves use all the services related to our ministry. You don’t have to spend money on travel and the hassles related to travel will be over. At these events, all of the Ministry’s work takes place under one roof.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Foreign Employment Promotion Jagath Pushpakumara said:

This is something that goes beyond the traditional job fair experience we’ve seen before. In addition to all the institutions of the Ministry of Labour, the central bank is also involved in this. Hence, here you will get solutions to all your problems including those related to EPF and ETF. Therefore, anyone in the Southern Province who has problems with these institutions should let us know about these problems. Please direct all matters to the Secretariat, Global Fair 2022, Ministry of Labour, Narahenpita, Colombo. If you tell us in advance, we can prepare solutions for everyone. It is more effective to notify us in writing beforehand than to report problems on site.

This event was attended by the heads of all institutions subordinate to the Ministry, including the Secretary of the Ministry of Labour.
