More jobs are coming to BC and more workers are needed.
The BC government recently forecast that more than a million job openings will come to the province over the next 10 years.
The opportunities will attract “students and job seekers” who want to “develop their skills and find rewarding jobs of the future.”
The 10-year projection “helps governments and businesses direct resources to support the future workforce and gives British Columbians timely information to help them make decisions about their future career paths,” according to a post on the website of the BC government.
Black Press Media’s new job fair in Surrey seeks to address both the current shortage and those that may be to come.
Ranee Pal, Black Press Media Events Manager, believes that for many looking to change careers, start a new career or train for the future, this is the right time to attend Black Press’ new Surrey job fair.
The Surrey Career and Post-Secondary Education Event takes place on September 30th right next to the Town Hall at the Civic Hotel.
“The event will showcase a variety of organizations,” Pal said. “Participants can benefit from a diversity that reflects the province’s thriving labor market.”
Pal added that the job fair is an easy way for prospective employees or students to connect with a wide range of employers and educational providers in one place.
“It really speaks to the value that Black Press Media’s career events have in the marketplace today,” she said. “It’s even better to be able to do this in person and have those one-on-one meetings about the programs or companies you’re interested in.”
According to the BC government, the province’s workforce must “build new skills and knowledge to keep up with the projected 1,004,000 job openings by 2031.”
The government predicts that 63 percent of those jobs will be those that “replace people leaving the workforce permanently,” such as retiring workers.
“The remaining 37 percent will be new jobs created by economic growth and the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The Surrey Career and Post-Secondary Education Event takes place on September 30th right next to the Town Hall at the Civic Hotel.
A post for the job fair online notes that on September 30, more than 35 exhibitors will present a wide range of jobs.
BC Corrections is the title sponsor of the job fair and the organization is in the process of hiring new corrections officers.
There will also be many post-secondary institutions represented at the job fair such as Discovery Community College, Eton College and many more.
The career fair will be held on Friday 30 September from 11am to 3pm in the Civic Ballroom at the Civic Hotel in Surrey, 13475 Central Avenue.
