The coffee giant’s new rewards program is a bit mixed.
- Dunkin’ is replacing its DD Perks rewards program with a new one called Dunkin’ Rewards.
- While some of the new program’s features benefit Dunkin’ fans, others work against them.
- Much more points are needed to get fancy coffee drinks for free.
Buying store-bought coffee on a regular basis can get expensive. But if it’s a must-visit for you, then it’s easy to see why you might decide to stretch your budget to visit your favorite coffee chain.
If you’re a Dunkin fan, the good news is that frequent visits to your local store can also result in free drinks – that is, if you’re a member of Dunkin’s rewards program. But the program you’re used to is changing now, and while some of the new rules might be of benefit to you, others might be a source of frustration.
Introducing Dunkin’ Rewards
Dunkin’ fans may be used to a rewards program called DD Perks. Now that program is being phased out and replaced with Dunkin’ Rewards.

So let’s talk about the advantages of the new program. For one thing, it’s easier to collect reward points for your purchases. Under the old rewards program, you would be entitled to five points for every $1 you spent at Dunkin’. As part of the new rewards program, every $1 spent at Dunkin’ earns you 10 points.
In addition, in the old program, you had to accumulate 200 points to use points for a purchase. Under the new program, you only need 150 points. In addition, your points can be used for grocery purchases. And if you visit a Dunkin’ at least 12 times in the same calendar year, you can earn even more points and access new benefits.
Sounds good so far, doesn’t it? Well, this is where the new rewards program loses points (pun intended). With Dunkin’ Rewards, you must earn 700 points to receive a free cold brew, cold brew with cold foam, a Dunkin’ refreshment, or a hot or iced espresso drink. And it takes a whopping 900 points to get a free frozen drink or a hot or iced Signature Latte. This is a far cry from the old system where you got every free drink for just 200 points.
Are you a fan of the new system?
Maybe you’re a fan of Dunkin’ in general. But your thoughts on the new rewards program might be mixed.
However, if you don’t like fancy coffee, this new setup actually works to your advantage. And the more free coffees you can snag, the less you have to charge your credit card.
If you’re a fan of Dunkin’s fancy selections, like lattes and cold brews, but are tight on money, then you might need to reserve these drinks for special occasions, as it clearly takes a lot of points to qualify to get them for free . But don’t despair – as part of its new rewards program, Dunkin’ is also planning various targeted offers for enrollers. And you never know if those offers include discounts on your favorite drinks at different times of the year, day or month.
All in all, you may or may not be excited about these changes to Dunkin’s rewards program. Anyway, that’s how it’s going to be for now, so the more you familiarize yourself with the new rules, the more benefits you’ll be able to enjoy.
