Is the stock exchange open on Indigenous Peoples Day/Columbus Day?

Yes. Both the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq exchange are open, as are the other US stock exchanges. These include the American Stock Exchange, Philadelphia Stock Exchange, Boston Stock Exchange, Investors Exchange, NYSE Arca, NYSE Chicago and Chicago Board Options Exchange.

The bond markets are closed on this day.

When does the stock market open?

The exchange’s regular trading hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET on weekdays. However, the market closes at 1 p.m. ET the day before or after certain public holidays.

Also, depending on the brokerage or investment platform, you may be able to trade during the premarket hours (4am to 9:30am ET). The same applies to after-hours trading. This is available from 4pm to 8pm ET.

However, the available hours may vary depending on the broker. For example, SoFi only offers premarket trading from 9am to 9:30am ET, but it offers extended trading hours from 4pm to 8pm

Bond market holidays 2022

There are slight variations with trading hours and public holidays/early closures when it comes to the bond market. The bond market was also closed on New Year’s Day this year. As for hours of operation, premarket hours are from 4am to 8am ET, regular hours are from 8am to 5pm ET, and extended hours are from 5pm to 8pm ET.

Can you still use your account during the stock market closure?

Unless you use international stock exchanges or electrical communication networks, you are unlikely to be able to trade on weekends or public holidays when the market is closed. However, you can still perform basic functions in your account.

You can check balances, monitor your portfolio’s performance, or initiate deposits or withdrawals. However, please note that you will not be able to place any orders until the market reopens. Also, the rate at which funds deposits or withdrawals are completed depends on your broker’s opening hours.
