Press release from the Humboldt Library Foundation:

The Humboldt Library Foundation (HLF) presented $94,550 to the Humboldt County Library system for the purchase of new books, including e-resources and book club materials, and continued access to genealogy and language learning resources.

“The library is delighted with this donation,” said Jeanine Lancaster, director of youth services. “We will be adding new materials to help children, teens and other customers increase their awareness and understanding of themselves and the world around them.”

Board Chairwoman Elizabeth Murguia said: “HLF plays a critical role in ensuring that library materials remain up to date and relevant to the community. Our grant brings new and exciting titles to our libraries and supports the community of eBook readers and book club goers. ”

Library book clubs supported with this funding include the Banned Books Club, Teen Book Club, All Belong Here Book Club and A Novel Idea Book Club. Mango Languages and Heritage Quest Genealogy subscriptions will also be supported for an additional year with this funding, in addition to a significant expansion of physical and eBooks.

In addition, HLF sponsored the Humboldt County Children’s Author Festival with a $3,000 contribution. Biennially since 1975, writers from across the country have come to Humboldt County to inspire and encourage thousands of school-age children to read books. This year 24 authors will visit over 50 schools and on Saturday 22.10. culminating with a book signing at the main library in Eureka.

“The Author’s Children’s Author Festival has many moving parts, from authors to school sites across the county. It’s very difficult to pull that together,” said co-coordinator Joan Williams. “Without the financial support of our partners like the Humboldt Library Foundation, we could not reach so many children,” she added.

HLF was formed in 1996 to build financial support for the Humboldt County Library system, which includes the main library in Eureka, ten branches, and a book truck serving fourteen rural communities. HLF raises funds in the community and makes annual grants directly to the library to support the purchase of new materials, add programs, and provide technology upgrades. Since its inception, HLF has provided over $1.4 million in grants to the library.

Donations of any size are welcome. To set up a donor-advised fund, or for more information about the Humboldt Library Foundation and how to donate, visit our website www.humboldtlibraryfoundation.org, like us on Facebook, or call the HLF office at (707) 269 to -1991.
