Godrej & Boyce empowers women through entrepreneurship

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) interventions in community development, Godrej & Boyce, the flagship company of the Godrej Group, has created 193 women-led companies.

MUMBAI: Development of communities is the main function of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in India. CSR programs bring much-needed changes to communities in terms of access to essential services, initiation of behavioral changes for the benefit of society, and creation of opportunities that accelerate the socio-economic advancement of disadvantaged groups.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) interventions in community development, Godrej & Boyce, the flagship company of the Godrej Group, has established 193 women-led enterprises including 157 Self Help Groups (SHGs), generating a total revenue of Rs 43 Lakh. Is. .

The women-led SHGs formed by the company undertake agriculture-related activities such as floriculture, poultry farming, and paddy nurseries. Other women-led companies provided equipment for the production of various products such as agarbatis, beauty products, oils, etc.

Talking about the benefits of women’s entrepreneurship, Ashwini Deodshmukh, Head, CSR and Sustainability Reporting, Godrej & BoyceHe said: “Many studies have shown that increasing women’s income has positive effects on the well-being of their families because they tend to spend a large part of their income on health and education. “Women entrepreneurs also help change gendered expectations of women’s roles in society, thereby paving the way for greater participation of women in education and livelihood opportunities.”

Emphasizing the importance of holistic rural development, he added: “Most problems and their solutions are interdependent.” For example, the health of a woman or a child affects their ability to learn or work. Therefore, it is necessary to have a comprehensive view of community development.
