Jenny Peterson is ‘extremely excited’ to bring her business, and the first business to open, to the multi-million dollar downtown Port Huron development this January.
Be Je Salon is co-owned by Peterson and his mother, Bev Lasky. His salon is expected to be the first business to open at Wrigley Center, pending contractors and construction timelines.
The business will have stations for all hair salon essentials, such as hair coloring, cuts and treatments.
“It’s really exciting to be the first (business) here,” Peterson said. “I’m excited to see how this all develops.”
Peterson said he plans to hold a grand opening of the salon on January 16. The salon is currently located at 808 Lapeer Avenue in Port Huron.
Peterson has owned the business since 1998. She started with The Body Boutique, which focused on massage, facials and waxing services. In 2007, she changed the business name to Be Je Salon and shifted her focus to haircare. She said she chose the Wrigley Center as a new location because she thought it would be perfect for the salon.

Peterson said, “I travel to teach hair coloring and I’ve been to several salons with set-ups similar to Wrigley’s.” “I knew this was an opportunity I wanted to take.”
Be Je Salon will bring back its body treatment services once it opens in the new location.
The Salon at Wrigley Center will feature 10 hair stations, each with its own stylist. Currently, seven stylists are confirmed to begin work at the salon.
All equipment will be new and include six fully adjustable hair wash stations, ceiling-hang blow dryers, three color processors, three sit-in hair dryers, a color bar and two body treatment rooms.
Peterson aims not to have a gap between closing his current location and opening a new one.
“We plan to finish our last customer at the Lapeer location on January 14th, move everything in that weekend, and then open the following Monday,” Peterson said.
Peterson and Lasky wanted to make sure they stayed local in opening their new location, working with Mortimer Lumber, Martin Construction, Independent Flooring, Countertop Direct, Ainsworth Electric, Superior Heating & Cooling, Zaya’s Painting and Masters Plumbing Inc. .
Peterson and Lasky were born and raised in Port Huron. Peterson said she wants to help build a sustainable downtown for generations to come.
All stylists at Be Je Salon will be independent. Peterson said she thinks of herself as a leader rather than a boss. She views her stylists as partners, and she wants to do what’s best for them. Lasky said his daughter is easy to work with and a trustworthy businesswoman.
“She’s loyal to the people who work for her, and she does what’s best for her and the business,” Lasky said.
Peterson said she wants to create an environment where her clients can relax and disconnect from the outside world.
