People in New York and San Francisco rated how well President Biden handled the economy.

“Dreadful. I don’t even want to comment on that,” Keith told Fox News in San Francisco. “I don’t even know if Biden is conscious at times.”

But San Francisco’s Susan thought problems with the economy were beyond Biden’s control.

“He’s doing what he can do as a president in a leadership position,” she said, giving Biden a two. “That can’t fall on one person.”

Keith, speaking from San Francisco, says President Biden did the following "terrible" work in dealing with the economy.

AMERICANS RATE BIDEN AFTER INCREASE IN NATIONAL APPROVAL RATING

People speaking to Fox News from the coastal cities gave Biden mixed reviews. While most agreed that the economy was doing badly, responses varied as to whether the president was to blame.

“Everything is more expensive,” said one New Yorker, Giovanni. “You have to be blind not to see it.”

“I give from one to ten [Biden] one two,” he continued.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, inflation rose 8.3% year-on-year in August. But several people pointed to the inflation rate of 9.1% in June, the biggest increase in 40 years.

“You know, go to the market and buy nothing and spend $50,” Keith said. “You just can’t believe it.”

“How I’m doing it day by day, week by week, month by month and just surviving is incredible,” added Keith.

Michael, a New Yorker, thought similarly but declined to give Biden a grade.

“The economy is in the s***ter. My stock portfolio is down 70%,” he said.

“I’d give him an ‘incomplete’ because he’s not even doing his job,” Michael continued. “No grade.”

The Dow fell 1,200 points – the biggest drop since June 2020 – after the inflation report was released last week. In addition, the economy slumped for two straight quarters, a sign often used to indicate a recession.

Keith said he’s hoping for “changes in the House of Representatives” in the midterms and for “a big change in 2024.” Michael also said he hopes Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will be elected president in 2024.

Others agreed the economy was not doing well but didn’t blame Biden.

“He’s trying to do what he can,” said one man, who gave the president a “seven or eight.” “I know there is a lot of resistance from his opposition, but that will be the case no matter who is in office.”

Steve said in New York: “I give it a strong 2 because dealing with the economy is not a President’s problem. It’s a Wall Street problem.”

Some said the economy was beyond the President’s control.

“I think it would be a pile of rubble no matter who’s in there,” said John, a longtime San Francisco resident. “I wouldn’t want to judge that.”

FOX NEWS POLL MAJORITY SAYS BIDEN ADMINISTRATION INCOMPETENT

Susan said, “Biden is doing everything he can, and he can’t control everything.”

“He cannot control the Federal Reserve. He can’t control the market,” she continued.

Regardless, most Americans who spoke to Fox News said they were struggling because of the economy.

“As far as I can tell, the economy has recovered since he was in power,” said Joe from San Francisco. “The confidence he has brought and the stability he has brought has helped our economy recover in many ways.”

He said presidents cannot take responsibility for a good economy, but gave Biden an A-minus.

“In general, I like how we’re doing now,” Max, who gave the president a 2, said in San Francisco. “Things could get better, but things could be a lot worse.”

Jon Michael Raasch reported from San Francisco and Teny Sahakian from New York City.
