Hello book lovers!

I hope you enjoyed my last newsletter about strange books. For those of you who don’t like weird books, I see you too. My love of weird books is definitely a recent addition to my reading tastes. And because I know weird books aren’t for everyone, I’d like to recommend a few books that make readers feel the opposite way. These picks are the coziest, most comfortable reads I’ve read. They are also all books about books. So grab a blanket and a cup of tea and enjoy one of these leisurely reads. They are the perfect complements for the cooler days and nights I think lie ahead.

I firmly believe in going into a book with as little knowledge as possible. I try not to read too many synopses or reviews as most of them share too much. My pitches below are short and sweet for this reason alone.

The storied life of AJ Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin is probably the cutest book I’ve ever read. It’s the epitome of a feel-good read. We follow AJ Fikry, who owns a bookstore on a very remote island in New England. Life doesn’t go its way until one day someone walks into your life and everything changes. This book is a declaration of love for reading. I cried several times while reading this story. And at 260 pages, it’s the perfect companion for an autumn afternoon.

If you are looking for something with a little more romance then The bookstore on the corner by Jenny Colgan is for you. This book has big Hallmark movie vibes – a woman in her 20s moves from the big city to the Scottish countryside and opens a mobile bookshop. She has made it her mission to bring a love of reading and books to her new community. I read this book a few years ago and still think about it often. If you love romance with a surly love interest then this is the book for you.

Of course it wouldn’t be All booked Newsletter without a dash of literary murder. magpie murders by Anthony Horowitz is the perfect combination of books, detective stories and the English countryside. There is a novel within this novel that is so well done that for a while you forget it isn’t the main story. This read is reminiscent of classic detective stories—think Agatha Christie. I highly recommend this one; it is one of my favorite books i have read.
